"A camera exposes more than just an image. It also exposes the photographer."
Steve Coleman
This month's quote reflects where the SAPS are in putting our website and the printed exhibition together.
In wanting to display the best of what we as individuals have produced so far, we are now in the process of selecting and making decisions about what makes a good image. Sometimes it is about the composition or the colour, but most of the time it is about the subject matter. Does the picture tell a story; does it communicate what we want it to and importantly, in a way that the viewer will
recognise what it is we are each trying to say?
Most of us use the cameras on our phones. Probably like many other camera phone users, we take several pictures and we don’t delete the not so good ones; well not until we get a message saying the memory is full! Why do we keep them? If we were to show these images
they would probably expose us as being indecisive!
So as we take our time selecting and deleting, we just wanted you, other photographers out there with multiples and duplicates, to know we understand the dilemma. Come and join us in the discussions or just send in some of your images, which you feel reflect our village and surroundings. We are intending to have a space/page on the website for photos sent in by the community and we
would love to see your photographic expressions of where we live.
Be assured, if you are holding back because it makes you feel a bit exposed, you will definitely be in good company. So do send us your pictures, doing this will make a positive addition to widening the story of where we live.
The SAPS Village Archive will be exhibited during the Arts Festival week from 21st to 29th of September in the Jubilee Rooms.
For those of you who have a computer, the website will be going live shortly, so do look out for details in the Stogursey News. Contact us at stogurseysaps@gmail.com
