"If you want to be a better photographer, stand in front of more interesting stuff."
Jim Richardson
Jim Richardson is a National Geographic photographer of some standing. His portfolio can be found via an
internet search on your computer (if you have one). Curious as to his claim about being a better photographer, I had a look. He has certainly stood in front of some ‘interesting stuff’ and travelled the world to be there!
Escaping the rain in the UK, some of the SAPS have been holidaying abroad in the past month. It’s been great to see some of their images from standing in front of ‘interesting stuff’ in other parts of the world. One of our team, presenting some new imagery (which he was very pleased with), said how he had been influenced by some of the examples we have discussed as part of our regular Thursday meetings. The examples, from various sources, provide talking points/starting points for our members to try out new ideas and find new enthusiasm to explore beyond their more frequently visited subject matter.
SAPS endeavours to support the development of all its members and we learn from each other. We have constructive discussions on the merits and pitfalls of our individual work and yes, we often stand in front of ‘more interesting stuff’.
If you want to get even more out of your photography, do come and join us. You can help support the development of the Village Photographic Archive project, but also benefit from discussing your images with a likeminded and enthusiastic group of photographers.
The SAPS Village Photographic Archive will be exhibited in the Jubilee Roooms during the Arts Festival week from 21st to 29th September.
For those of you who have a computer, we will be going live with our new website, prior to the Festival, to give everyone who can access it, a taster of what to expect in the Exhibition. Look out for further details in next month’s Stogursey News.
If you would like to submit photographs, which reflect our village, we are establishing a page for additional contributions on our website. Contact us at stogurseysaps@gmail.com
