Stogursey News, April 2024

“Art pulls a community together... Art makes you feel differently. That's what artists are doing all the time, shifting and changing the way you see life.”

This sentiment, beautifully expressed by playwright Lister Sinclair, resonates deeply, even if his name may not be immediately familiar.

I think we witness this truth in our village through a variety of artistic endeavours, one of which of course is the Stogursey Arts Photography Society (SAPS). Do I hear a cheer?!

Fresh from another lively SAPS gathering, we're thrilled with the progress on this year's photographic project: capturing individuals and groups within our village to create a photographic record - a snapshot of our community's essence. Some of you may recall glimpsing historical village life photos at the Christmas Tree festival; now, we aim to build a digital archive on a dedicated web site, juxtaposing past and present images for comparison and reflection.

Exciting, isn't it? We think so, and we are eager for your participation:

  1. Do you have old photos of the village / village life tucked away? We'd love to scan and include them.

  2. Keep an eye out for our intrepid photographers—they might approach you or your group for a snapshot. Your warm welcome would be greatly appreciated!

  3. Perhaps you'd like to try your hand at photography? We'd be delighted to feature your portraits of individuals or groups.

Please send any contributions to colinmpye@gmail.com

We have some other ideas floating around and are hoping to get things together for the Stogursey Arts Festival later this year. But in the meantime, don’t forget you would be most welcome to join our happy troupe. Let's make art, memories, and connections together!
